Football in Rio is more than a football film.
It is a journey through the people, railways, ports, factories and communities that transformed an English game into Brazil's greatest passion.
Currently in production.
About the Film
Football in Rio – More Than a Game is an independent feature documentary exploring how football reached Rio de Janeiro—and how the city transformed it into one of the greatest sporting cultures on Earth.
Following the stories of Charles Miller, Thomas Donohoe and the communities that shaped the game, the film travels from Britain to Brazil, uncovering the people, railways, ports and factories behind football's remarkable journey.
Why this film?
After spending years documenting football culture across Brazil, one question kept coming back:
How did football become so deeply rooted in Rio de Janeiro?
The deeper the research went, the more it became clear that this story is about far more than football.
It is a story of migration.
Industry.
Railways.
Communities.
And the people who unknowingly helped shape the world's greatest football nation.
About the Filmmaker
Football in Rio is produced by Sascha Fox, creator of Addiction Football.
Over the past several years, Addiction Football has documented football culture across Europe and the Americas, leading to the idea for what would eventually become Football in Rio – More Than a Game.
